Chapter 7 The First Day of School

"Caroline." Caroline heard her mother singing her name as if she were saying the name of an angel. Darting down the stairs, Caroline nearly smacked right into her brother.



"Gosh! Can't you watch were you're going!" He screeched. "You could topple me over!"



For the moment, Caroline didn't really care for a lecture from her brother. She scooted away from him and to the kitchen.

"What is it?" she gasped.

"Get your breakfast.'' mom replied. "Hurry. We are going somewhere very important."

Caroline gobbled down her breakfast. After brushing her teeth and getting dressed, she zipped to the kitchen again.

"Lets go!'' she cried. "What is it?"

Without saying another word, Caroline's mom got into the car-with Caroline after her. Caroline asked a million questions, but didn't get an answer. Finally, mom pulled up in front of a white building. Handing her a backpack and lunchbox she called after Caroline, "Have a good time!"

Caroline soon found her classroom. In the doorway, she stopped dead in her tracks. There, right next to the desk with her name on it, was her worst enemy.
